Why do you people wear ice gloves while fishing?
It’s cold when you go ice fishing and you can’t fish without your hands.
If you don’t wear ice gloves, your hands might end up being so cold you can’t feel them, thus making fishing hard.
You also run the risk of going home early because your fingers are too cold, plus things like frostbite can set in and cause long term damage if you don’t wear gloves.

Things to Consider When Buying Ice Fishing Gloves
Materials
There are a lot of different materials to choose from when it comes to ice gloves, and it can become quite confusing to know what’s best.
You have so many to choose from including neoprene and nylon shells to different types of insulation like Thinsulate and fleece to then looking at the grips like sharkskin and leather.
Combination
Gloves can come in any kind of mixture of the above, and my advice is to just make sure that the gloves have the right features like good insulation and waterproofing, without worrying whether the shell is neoprene or nylon for example.
TIP
I’d advise using neoprene and fleece for warmer temperatures, around 20 Fahrenheit, and then jumping away from neoprene and fleece to nylon and full-on grams of insulation for temperatures under 20 Fahrenheit.
Waterproofing
The best way to stay warm is to not get damp and the gloves you choose should be waterproof.
Most of the gloves in the review are waterproof, but some are water-resistant, and some are made to be wet when landing your catch.
NOTE
It’s up to you how you want to play it, but I would have a pair of waterproof warm gloves for fishing, and then one pair of wet gloves for landing your catch with. This means you’ll always have one dry warm pair that won’t be covered in fishy slime.
Breathability
You’re likely to have sweat build up inside your gloves, and if this can’t escape, it could cool and make you cold and damp.
Make sure your gloves have some breathability to let the sweat out and ensure you stay warm.
Insulation
Insulation is key for staying warm in extremely cold conditions and some gloves come with 100-200g of insulation to keep your hands and finger tips from succumbing to frostbite.
If you go fishing in below 20 Fahrenheit weather conditions, then you’ll want some winter fishing gloves with this amount of insulation.
You will have to sacrifice some dexterity though, as the extra padding makes it harder to use your pointer finger and do tasks like tying knots.
Hands, Fit & Grippiness
While you’re wearing your gloves you’re still going to need to be able to drill holes in the ice, rig up rods, wind reels, and more.
To do this the gloves you choose need to fit well so you can use your fingers properly and have some good grippy material on the palms.
This will ensure you can fish easily and always have control of your gear, like your rod or auger for example.
